[INTERVIEW] BIGBANG Talks About ′Made′ Project, Stage Names and Unexpected Twists to Come

The BIGBANG members looked back on the 10 years that they′ve been promoting.

After releasing their new songs Loser and Bae as part of its first project album M on May 1, BIGBANG gathered for an interview with Newsen at a hotel in Yeouido, where the members talked about living their lives as singers.

Talking about the album Made, which will be released on September 1, Taeyang stated, "The album is complete and the results are very satisfying. I think our colors will definitely be more clear. Just because M came out first, it doesn′t mean that [these songs] are weaker or better songs. The CEO chose it for us based on the season and the promotional direction. We followed through believing in that."

Regarding the comments that the songs Loser and Bae Bae are more geared to the public than before, T.O.P answered, "BIGBANG is a public group so it′s right that we sing songs for the public. But we′ve never once thought about writing songs for the public. We focused more on creating good songs."

"More than love songs, we focused mostly on the issues that our society is facing and how we look at society," added Taeyang. "Even though we seem happy, we also have difficulties, and we wanted to have an exchange and sympathize about those things."

All the members of BIGBANG, minus Daesung, have promoted for close to 10 years with a stage name. G-Dragon′s real name is Kwon Ji Yong, T.O.P′s name is Choi Seung Hyun, Taeyang′s name is Dong Young Bae, Daesung′s name is Kang Daesung and Seungri′s name is Lee Seung Hyun.

"We have our real names, but we′ve been using stage names. The job as a celebrity carries a real name and a stage name, and depending on where the focus is, one side always gets lost," explained G-Dragon.

"After 10 years of promotions, I think I′ve found a point that balances [the names] out for the most part. Just like many young people, we′ve also experienced that and we expressed those thoughts into songs."

About the songs in the Made project, he added, "There are performance songs, and then there are songs of various colors. There will always be an unexpected twist. When asked why we came up with this kind of plan, the answer is always similar. We are affectionate towards all the songs and we want to film a music video for all of these songs, which is why we came up with this plan, but because the album styles were different, it was a bit of a free-for-all. We think it′ll be a single where you won′t have space to be bored."

Beginning with M, consisting of Loser and Bae Bae, BIGBANG will release new songs at the beginning of each month until August. The full Made will be released on September 1.

BIGBANG will also embark on a world tour, visiting around 15 countries with 70 concerts and an estimate of 1,400,000 fans in the audience.
