[NEWS] Meaning behind G-Dragon’s mini-album title track ‘CRAYON’ revealed

It was recently reported that G-Dragon’s newest mini-album tracklist was revealed through YG Entertainment‘s official blog, ‘YG LIFE’.

According to YG’s reports to allkpop, the album, ‘ONE OF A KIND’, which is scheduled for release on the 15th of September contains seven tracks, of which the second track, ‘CRAYON’ will be the title song.

Co-produced and co-written by YG Entertainment’s representative producer Teddy and G-Dragon himself, the name ‘CRAYON’ is the shortened version of ‘CRAZY ON’, derived from the combination of ‘CRAZY + G-DRAGON’. Parallel to the title, the official title song is said to represent a G-Dragon who is crazed about an unspecified thing, and is expected to showcase the Big Bang member’s unique color.

In addition to the attention the album has been receiving for G-Dragon’s personal participation in the production of all seven tracks, it is drawing interest because of the various artists who featured in the tracks as well.

Of all the songs, the third track titled ‘Ultimately’ is receiving the most attention because it reads that the track features ’? of YG New Girl Group’, as can be seen on the actual tracklist. It is being assumed that another mysterious upcoming female group member participated in the album following Jennie Kim’s appearance as the female lead in G-Dragon’s ‘That XX’ music video released just days ago.

Furthermore, Jaurim’s Kim Yoona featured on the 5th track ‘MISSING YOU’ while Nell’s Kim Jong Wan participated in the 6th track ‘TODAY’. As artists outside of YG typically have not participated in Big Bang or G-Dragon’s albums, fans are expecting this album to be new and exciting. In addition, the 7th bonus track titled ‘Light the Fire‘ features artists such as Tablo and underground rapper ‘DOK2’, raising the anticipation for how the artists’ and G-Dragon’s musical colors will harmonize in the track.

Meanwhile, ‘That XX’ which was released just days ago has taken the #1 spot on music sites and is being noted for being the first track ‘restricted for minors’, to have taken the first place spot on music charts. As a result, it can be seen that G-Dragon’s music appeals not only to teens and those in their 20s, but to a wide range of age groups.

In addition, the music video for ‘One of a Kind’ gathered over 10 million views in one week while the video for ‘That XX’ received 3 million views in just two days after its release, and even before his official promotions, the artist has been receiving much love.

The tracks from G-Dragon’s first mini album ‘ONE OF A KIND’ will released on the 15th of this month while the album will officially be revealed on the 18th.

[Star of the Week] G-Dragon’s ‘One of a Kind’ Hairstyles

True to his song title, Big Bang leader G-Dragon is definitely one of a kind in many respects, but if there’s an area in his life that personifies this characteristic the most, it’s all in his head—er, hair.

When it comes to his hair, G-Dragon’s motto seems to be ‘the crazier and weirder the better,’ so we’ve gathered some of his wildest hair moments below.

The Mohawk

At this point, the Mohawk is more overdone than original among idol stars, but G-Dragon has managed to put his own spin on the tired hairstyle time and time again.

From Mohawks to faux hawks and everything in between, we’ve seen it all—thanks to G-Dragon.

Seaweed hair

Big Bang splashed back onto the K-Pop scene earlier this year with fifth mini album Alive, but what also made huge waves was G-Dragon’s seaweed hair.

We’ll admit, the hairstyle took a little getting used to, and as if the long lock wasn′t bizarre enough, we learned it was also high maintenance.

The Mushroom

G-Dragon donned a similar platinum blonde ‘do for his first solo single Heartbreaker, but he topped himself with the mushroom hair he rocked for Monster.

Ooh, aah, see how it moves! Get in line because we have first dibs on G-Dragon for our shampoo commercial.

Parted pink

We didn’t get to see G-Dragon’s hot pink hair move onstage, as it was essentially an SNS exclusive seen mostly on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, but it was electrifying enough to catch our attention and make this list.

We particularly liked the complimentary center part as well as the crazy facial expressions and poses it brought out of G-Dragon.

Braided

From cornrows to pigtails and bandanas, G-Dragon brought back every 90s hip hop hairstyle known to gangster rappers for latest single One of a Kind.

We’re usually turned off by pretty boy K-Pop stars posing as thugs, but the music video’s over-the-top, tongue-in-cheek (we hope) salute to gangster rap hairstyles was so un-be-weave-ably perfect.

[Star of the Week] [Song Review] G-Dragon Messes Around on ‘One of a Kind’

The good (or bad) thing about G-Dragon is that you never know what to expect from him.

The ‘intro’ to his long-awaited next solo album, One of a Kind, is out, and immediately you notice that this time, it’s not about the flashy lights are or how excited he can get you. He takes his time when he needs it, and though you can’t understand what he’s saying half of the time in your first few listens of this song, you get the message; he’s cool, he knows it and he is indeed one of a kind.

No fancy sounds cover up for this single. He sits you down in the middle of a simple, droning backdrop and confronts you only with his voice and his flow.

At times he apologizes and at times he begs for love, but you can tell that though he seems apologetic on the outside, what’s hiding inside is that fun rascal we’re all used to seeing.

He’s as serious as the reeling background sounds and the sudden high tone break he takes in the middle. He also throws the criticisms back at whoever threw them at him in the first place in a bold move, pretending to listen but then brushing them off as if to say, “So you hate me? I’m sorry. Are we cool now?”

Make sure to check out One of a Kind with its music video, because it seems they’re meant to be together as One of a Kind will not be released as a separate single (at least for the time being).

The black and white atmosphere, scattered with a few brilliant colors here and there, help G-Dragon define the song yet again with a few disturbing moments here, a little teasing there, but, most definitely with a lot of cool.

[Star of the Week] G-Dragon’s Cutest Old School Moments

Before G-Dragon was the fearless leader of Big Bang, he was a superstar-in-training.

Most of his fans know that G-Dragon has been in front of the cameras since he was a tiny tot, and while he’s killing us with his charisma now, then, he was killing moms with the cute.

We’ve rounded up some of G-Dragon’s cutest old school moments for you below, so read on and try to keep the goo-goo-gaga baby talk to a minimum.

Baby G-Dragon dances

If G-Dragon seems like a natural born idol star and leader, it’s because he’s had a lot of training, as he had his first taste of the spotlight at a young age.

Before he was making a lot of noise with Big Bang, G-Dragon was a pretty big deal among child stars and stage moms as a member of Little Roo’Ra.

Baby G-Dragon acts

Like many idol stars, the Big Bang members have dabbled in acting since making their idol group debut, but as always, G-Dragon has proven to be way ahead of the game, having dipped his toes in acting as a child actor.

We’re still waiting to see if G-Dragon will ever return to the acting world, but in the meantime, watch baby G-Dragon’s Oscar-worthy performance in the clip below. But pay close attention because it’s all in the first 10 seconds. Blink and you’ll miss it!

GD is a Hip Hop Gentleman

Although G-Dragon is known as Big Bang’s leader, he was building up his resume way before the group’s debut, having rapped on various YG Family tracks.

Nothing says old school hip hop like baggy T-shirts and Air Force Ones, as seen in the music video for YG Family’s Hip Hop Gentleman.

Pre-Big Bang G-Dragon practices hard

Although G-Dragon has contributed to various YG Family tracks like the one above, his musical career took off with Big Bang.

G-Dragon may make being an idol star look easy, but it took a lot of training and hours in the YG practice room to make him the performer he is today.

Pre-debut clips of the singer floating around on YouTube give fans a raw look at the oft flashy idol star to reveal that there’s actually incredible talent hidden beneath the glamorized surface.

The clip below reminds us that before G-Dragon was rocking the designer duds, he was pounding the pavement in sweats and a T-shirt to get the moves just right.
