’He has established himself from a “hip-hop idol” to an “artist”, and from a fashionista to the “icon of the times”. G-Dragon (24, Gwon Ji Yong) has been recognized as Korea’s leading icon, in “2013 Style Icon Awards”.
G-Dragon was given “Style Icon of the Year”, the grand prize of the 6th “2013 Style Icon Awards” (SIA), which was held on the 24. He was also given “10 Style Icons” prize.
G-Dragon expressed his impressions of receiving the prize, saying “Thank you. I’m not sure if I’m the right person to receive this prize. As a style icon, I’ll keep creating performances which can contribute to cultural development.”
G-Dragon beat other famous stars to be selected as the “style icon”. He is the youngest awardee ever in the history of SIA (Rain-Jang Mee Hee in 2008, Kim Hye Soo in 2009, Lee Byung Hun in 2010, Cha Seung Won in 2011, and Jang Dong Gun in 2011).
G-Dragon is the lead singer of boy band BIGBANG (G-Dragon, TOP, Taeyang, Dae Sung, and Seungri), as well as a solo artist. He has been recognized as a capable musician, with his quality music, colorful performance, and overwhelming presence on the stage. The unique fashion style and life style have also been adding up to G-Dragon’s value. He is also super-popular overseas. Last month, the Billboard gave G-Dragon a rave praise, saying “G-Dragon presented an amazing music in his new album, which knows no border between the East and the West. He proved that a K-Pop star is equal to a Western pop star.”
His fashion is important, too. Everything about G-Dragon’s style comes under the spotlight. Now, he is more than just a fashionista. He is now seen as a “style icon”. He has been the most sought-after muse for world-famous brands and designers. In 2012, he became the first Asian star who was selected as Givenchy’s muse. Channel, which is notorious for not sponsoring celebrities, offered sponsorship to G-Dragon for the first time.
G-Dragon has been establishing himself as the world’s “style icon”, going beyond Asia. Everything G-Dragon wears from top to toe creates sensation.
