[NEWS] G-DRAGON SAID “I’LL BE ICON WHO CONTRIBUTES TO CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT”


Korea’s best style icon has turned out to be G-Dragon (birth name Kwon Ji Yong).

At “2013 6th Style Icon Awards” (SIA) which was held on the 24 at CJ E&M Center located in Sangam-dong, Seoul, G-Dragon received grand prize “Style Icon of the Year”.

G-Dragon said “Thank you. I’m not sure if I’m qualified to receive this prize. Thank you so much. I have been pleased by the great love for my first solo album in four years. As a style icon, I’ll present a performance that can contribute to cultural development. I thank those who help me with my styling.”

G-Dragon is the lead singer of boy band Big Bang, as well as a solo artist. He beat all the other stars to be selected as the best “icon”. He is recognized as one of the best musicians, with musical genius, colorful performance, and overwhelming charisma. Now, he has been recognized as Korea’s best “icon”, with his unique fashion style and life style.

SIA is the only awards in Korea which selects figures who suggest new paradigm in fields like broadcasting, culture, and art and who exert influence in the public life style. This year’s SIA was the 6th.

This year’s SIA shed spotlight on unique and original style cons. The “10 Style Icons” were selected by on-line vote (30%), research survey (40%), and SIA judge panel’s scores (30%).

“10 Style Icons” included G-Dragon, “queen of romantic comedy” Gong Hyo Jjn, “hip-hop musician’s pride” Dynamic Duo, “god of x-rated comedy” Shin Dong Yup, “best girl band on music charts” SISTAR, “from a boy into a man” Yeo Jin Goo, “21st century romanticist Lee Jong Suk”, “iconic porter” Lee Su Jin, “homme fatal” Jung Woo Sung, and “Snow Piercer Queen” Tilda Swinton. Crayon Pop was selected as “New Icon”.

Meanwhile, “2013 SIA” Awards was held at 7pm on the 24, at CJ E&M Center located in Sangam-dong, Seoul. It was live-broadcasted to 11 countries including the USA and Australia, on six channels including On Style, tvN, Mnet, XTM, O’live, and Story On, as well as global channel Channel M and Mnet America.
