[FEATURE] BIGBANG’s Winning Formula - 5 highlights of the group’s electrifying performance at Singapore Grand Prix 2013

True to G-Dragon’s words at his “ONE OF A KIND WORLD TOUR” solo gig in Singapore earlier in June, the BIGBANG leader returned to our shores with his “brothers” yesterday, putting up an adrenaline-pumping concert at the Padang stage last night. Notably, it is also the second time the immensely popular K-Pop group has been invited to perform at the Singapore Grand Prix.

It has been some time since the five members of BIGBANG reunited on stage, and they surely did not disappoint with their high-energy performances.

To get a good glimpse of the boys, VIPs (BIGBANG’s official fanclub name) queued for hours under the glaring sun before the show kick-started at 11.15pm. It was heartening to know that the fans’ efforts did not go unnoticed as G-Dragon gave a shout-out during the concert, saying, “I know you guys waited for us since morning. We really appreciate it.”

The boys’ passion was clearly unaltered by the 80-minute performing time (which is significantly shorter than their usual concerts), as they ran around the extension stage throughout the show, trying to engage all fans standing at different sectors. Even when their hair and makeup were ruined by buckets of sweat, BIG BANG never once stopped the party.

Unlike most K-Pop groups who give out countless “hearts” during their shows, BIGBANG’s fanservice came in the form of good music and dedicated performances.

#1 Good mix of chart-topping hits and older singles

Catering to their long-time fans and new VIPs, BIGBANG’s setlist was made up of a satisfying mix of older hits like “Gara Gara Go” and “Lies”, and chart-topping songs which propelled the group to international fame, such as “Tonight” and “Fantastic Baby”.

Also, GD and TOP’s collaboration stage, where the duo exemplified their swag-ness while performing “Knock Out” and “High High”, helped drove the concert to a new high.

#2 First look at GD and Seungri’s new stages

Lucky for the local VIPs, we got to catch Seungri and G-Dragon perform their latest solo releases, “Gotta Talk to U” and “Crooked” respectively, “live” in Singapore last night.

What the fans loved even more was GD’s promise that BIGBANG will soon be having a comeback with a new album and a new concert tour.

“Till then, please wait for us,” he said, before treating the fans to the chorus of “Coup D’état”, another song from his latest album.

#3 Taeyang’s self-composed song for Singapore

BIGBANG is well-loved for their music talents, and thus, the fans were naturally excited when Taeyang exclaimed that he made a song about Singapore food.

To our amusement, it turned out to be one goofy jingle. He sang: “I ate chilli crab and pepper crab and mantou (Chinese steamed or fried buns). I ate chilli crab and pepper crab and mantou…”

The 25-year-old also announced that his long-awaited solo album will drop very soon, and wished for fans to support his new project. Showing some love for his homie, GD guaranteed that Taeyang’s new album is “gonna be dope (slang for “awesome”)”.

#4 TOP’s “adorkable” side

Most people know TOP as the tallest member in BIGBANG, the one with a uniquely deep voice and an intoxicating gaze; cool and maybe even a little aloof.

Last night, we got to see the 25-year-old, who was visibly in good spirits, in a different light. Not exactly the best dancer in the group, TOP was spotted grooving along to the music on many occasions, with a smile plastered on his face. On top of that, the rapper also displayed his “adorkable” (both dorky and adorable) side by creating his own dance moves.

#5 BIGBANG makes their fans happy without being overly mushy

It is when you meet BIGBANG in person that you realize how they are not quite the “bad boy(s)” that they sing about. For one, the members are especially earnest when sharing their thoughts.

“Are you guys having fun? (Pause) Sorry, my English is terrible,” Seungri (above) admitted, drawing laughter from the crowd who clearly did not mind his limited vocabulary.

One of the reasons why BIGBANG’s performances are so gratifying, is how the boys look like they are enjoying themselves as much as the audience does, and that itself makes the fans happy too.
