Beginning from MMA (Melon Music Awards) to KMA (Korean Music Awards). YG’s BIGBANG who is also called “God-BANG” boasted their unrivalled potential once again by sweeping as many as 22 awards in six major music awards in Korea for the year 2015. After receiving prizes in MMA, MAMA (Mnet Asia Music Awards), Seoul Music Awards, Golden Disc Awards, and Gaon Chart Music Awards, which give prizes to popular songs, BIGBANG also received awards in a music festival where music experts select winners. That is an unprecedented record that has never been written by any other Korean musicians.
BIGBANG’s masterwork “MADE” project reached its climax on February 29, 2016. On the day, BIGBANG achieved triple crown by receiving the best song of the year award for “BAE BAE”, the best pop music award for “LOSER”, and the most popular song of the year award selected by Internet users, in the 13th Korean Music Awards hosted at Guro Art Valley Theater in Seoul. Unlike the other five music awards in which BIGBANG has received awards so far, the only criteria for this music awards is the quality of music itself. No matter what people say, it is true that BIGBANG succeeded in killing two birds with one stone.
Those six music awards were like the festival of YG, by YG, and for YG. Indeed, Korea’s music scene in the year 2015 was all the more enriched by great success of YG artists. That made YG artists receive a remarkable number of trophies in music awards. While BIGBANG was standing on the vanguard of such success, PSY as well as two YG rookie groups including WINNER and iKON recorded remarkable achievement, not to mention band Hyuk-O of YG’s another label.
The beginning point was MMA. BIGBANG received the best song of the year award and the best artist of the year award in the “2015 Melon Music Awards” held on November 7 last year at Olympic Gymnastics Arena located in Seoul. BIGBANG recorded quadruple crown in the awards by receiving top 10 award, popularity award, and two grand prizes and said, “It’s been so long since all the five of us came to a music festival all together. That is all thanks to you. Thank you for your love and support for us”.
BIGBANG was acclaimed in MAMA as well. BIGBANG recorded quadruple crown once again in “2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards”, including two grand prizes. BIGBANG has been the most shining star in MAMA, receiving the grand prize for four years in a row since 2012. In “2015 MAMA”, BIGBANG received the best singer of the year and best song of the year awards, which are grand prizes of the awards. Plus, BIGBANG also received the best music video of award and worldwide favorite artist award, to record quadruple crown. BIGBANG members enjoyed themselves in MAMA with Korean fans whom they met after a long absence from Korea and became the hero of the festival.
BIGBANG continued to record triple crown in both Seoul Music Awards and Golden Disc Awards. Then, they swept the best singer of the year awards for May to August of the year 2015 in the “5th Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards”. BIGBANG also received Yinyuetai Asia Best Influence award in the Gaon awards, to record total five awards in it.
YG’s head producer YANG HYUN SUK received the best producer of the year award in Gaon music awards, culminating YG’s remarkable success last year. Even though YANG did not come upon the stage to receive the prize himself, all YG artists congratulated him on the stage. BIGBANG’s SEUNGRI and G-DRAGON expressed gratitude on behalf of YANG, saying, “This prize is like the final goal for any musician. Mr. YANG always leads us and cares for us with such a strong leadership, setting an ideal example for us. I would like to represent all YG artists to express our gratitude for him”.
Finally, BIGBANG became a real God-BANG by recording triple crown once again in Korean Music Awards. With such record, BIGBANG proved their unrivalled potential once again by killing two birds of popularity and the quality of music with only one stone.
