[NEWS] G-Dragon Doesn’t Think He Can Be a Producer Like Yang Hyun Suk
G-Dragon expressed his respect towards YG Entertainment’s head producer Yang Hyun Suk.
G-Dragon attended the roundtable interview on November 25 in a café in Mapo-gu and shared thoughts on his musical career path.
Having officially debuted as BIGBANG with the single album Bigbang in 2006, G-Dragon has a tremendous number of fans. On top of group activities, he has made consecutive hits with Heartbreaker in 2009 and Coup d’etat last year, proving his abilities as a soloist.
Music affiliates in and out of Korea have recently been focusing on G-Dragon’s global influence and unusual career path. It is because G-Dragon has been promoting all over the world, communicating with popular pop stars from different countries, not just settling down with his activities in Korea. Interest has been gathering, therefore, on whether G-Dragon, who has been promoting as an artist above being a singer, will begin the second stage of his life as a producer, training his junior singers.
When asked if he has any plans to carry out activities as a producer like Yang Hyun Suk, G-Dragon answered, “I’ve been watching him since I was young, but I don’t think I can do it. It really is not an easy job.”
Yang Hyun Suk has been leading YG, which houses globally popular groups such as Big Bang, 2NE1, Epik High, Akdong Musician, Lee Hi, Winner, iKON and more, increasing the status of K-pop around the globe.
G-Dragon said, “I think (Yang) Hyun Suk hyung is exceptionally good in that field,” adding, “Even when I’m just working on albums, I make fans wait and can’t release albums on time but how could I produce someone else?”
G-Dragon continued, “It could be possible if I learn more, have more time and come across an opportunity. But looking at Yang Hyun Suk now, he has been pulling off things that I can’t even dare try, all by himself, so I don’t think that it′s (chance of becoming a producer) is very high.”
Taeyang said, “I never thought that I want to become a producer. Not because it’s difficult but I wanted to be a singer from the beginning so I’m a singer now and would like to become a greater singer.”
Meanwhile, G-Dragon and Taeyang released the new song Good Boy on November 21 as YG’s hip-hop project unit.
Having topped music charts in Korea immediately after its release, Good Boy is a song co-composed by G-Dragon, The Fliptones and Freedo with G-Dragon arranging and writing the lyrics. It features catchy trap beat with G-Dragon’s sentimental rap and melody on top of Taeyang’s groovy vocals.
