[NEWS] G-DRAGON & TAEYANG, Two YG Trainees Grown into Super Stars

G-Dragon and Taeyang. The two members of top boy band Big Bang, also top stars who hold world tour concerts, once had hard times too. For five years, a long or short period of time, the two shared joys and sorrows as YG Entertainment’s trainees. In those days, Taeyang and G-Dragon buried themselves into everyday training, wondering about and looking forward to what their future will be like. And now, in September 2013, the two are now fiercely competing with one another, as mentors of two teams of YG’s new trainees who are dreaming of debut as YG’s new boy band eight years after the debut of Big Bang.

G-Dragon and Taeyang’s cutting remarks to their mentees in ‘WHO IS NEXT : WIN (“WIN”), YG Entertainment’s survival show produced to select YG’s new boy band, are creating sensation.

In the Episode 5 of “WIN”, Taeyang and G-Dragon mentored “WIN” Team A (Song Min Ho, Kim Jin Woo, Lee Seung Hoon, Nam Tae Hyun, and Gang Seung Yoon) and Team B (Kim Jin Hwan, Bobby, Song Yoon Hyung, Goo Jun Hwe, and Kim Dong Hyuk) respectively, and produced their performances.

Taeyang gave his mentees words of advice, saying, “You seem to be overwhelmed by the burden that you should show something after you have lost last two end-of-month evaluations. You are good, but you make audience suffocated. Enjoy it on the stage.” The vocal trainer also gave Team A two thumbs up, continuously shouting “good, good!” to their advanced skills on the stage after Taeyang’s producing.

After Taeyang’s advice, the members of Team A seemed to be relaxed and they even expressed their anticipation for the first battle, saying, “Now we see hope.”, “He has resolved our problems.”, “We cannot lose when he shed sweats to teach us.”, and “We had been rather tired of this song since we’ve been practicing it too much, but we’ve never felt more excited than today.”

G-Dragon also gave detailed words of advice to Team B’s delivery of rap lyrics, strength and weakness control, beat, and even props, and expressed a strong confidence in Team A, saying, “An artist who makes the audience turn their eyes from him while singing his part is an untalented one. You have to create a very strong impression so that the audience remember only you on the stage. (Goo) Jun Hwe, (Song) Yoon Hyung, and (Kim) Dong Hyuk have become better than before.”

Toward G-Dragon’s advice, the members of Team B expressed their gratitude, saying, “We feel encouraged by our mentor.”, and “We thank him very much for pointing out our weaknesses, which even ourselves did not well know.”

G-Dragon and Taeyang’s mentoring had a great influence on those 11 trainees who are starting from scratch. Both Team A and Team B are doing all the preparations for tests by themselves, from stage producing to choreography and music arrangement. All their musical talent and abilities are being built through their hard work every day, and they are showing growth as artists.

This also demonstrates YG’s unique philosophy for its artists, which focuses on their future potential that will blossom one or two years later, rather than on present skills.

Meanwhile, the first battle between G-Dragon and Taeyang, two mentors of “WIN” teams, will be aired on September 27 (Fri.) at 10:00pm and on Mnet and at 11:20pm on tvN in a row.

In addition, the show has been aired in more than 10 Asian countries on STAR TV’s cable subsidiary Channel V and CJ E&M’s Southeast Asian subsidiary Channel M, from the 17 (Tue.) this month.

In China, it is aired exclusively on Youku, the biggest local video-streaming web-site, and it has created a big sensation in the country, with the number of views of Episode 1 and 4 reaching one million.
