[NEWS] On the 11th day of TIME 100 Online Vote, BIGBANG Rose to 2nd Place
Korea’s leading K-pop group BIGBANG (G-DRAGON, T.O.P, TAEYANG, DAESUNG, SEUNGRI) ranks at second place on the online vote for the 2016 TIME 100, a list of the 100 most influential people in 2016.
The online vote for the 2016 TIME 100 began on March 23, and April 2 marks its 11th day. Currently, BIGBANG is at the second place winning 2.4 % of all the votes following Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders with 3.6% of votes. Until a week after voting began, BIGBANG was at 3rd place. But as time went by, BIGBANG received more votes and is currently at the 2nd place showing that they are indeed the icon of K-pop.
CL of 2NE1, who is also nominated to be on the 2016 TIME 100, has got 1% of votes and is among the top 30.
Meanwhile, every year, the Time magazine selects the 100 most influential people and announces the list. They do an online vote to ask people around the world which nominee should be on TIME 100.
There are 127 nominees for this year’s TIME 100 including Barack Obama, Xi Jinping, Bernie Sanders, Aung San Suu Kyi, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Adele, Tayler Swift, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo. In Korea, only BIGBANG and CL of 2NE1 were nominated to be on the list.
The vote for the 2016 TIME 100 continues until the 10th of this month, and the results will be announced on the 14th. The official 2016 TIME 100 is announced on April 21.
