[NEWS] BIGBANG in 4th place in on-line voting for TIME magazine’s “TIME 100”


Leading K-pop idol group BIGBANG (G-DRAGON, T.O.P, TAEYANG, DAESUNG, and SEUNGRI) is staying in the fourth place in the on-line voting for “Most influential 100 people in the world in 2016” (“2016 TIME 100”) of America’s news magazine TIME.

On March 23 (local time), TIME announced a list of 127 celebrities and sports stars around the world, for on-line voting for 2016 TIME 100. The list includes politicians such as American president Barack Obama, Chinese president Xi Jinping, Senator Bernie Sanders who is the Democratic candidate for American president, as well as stars such as Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo. The voting is now underway.

TIME magazine announces “TIME 100” every year after selecting the most influential 100 people in the world. On-line voting for “TIME 100” is also carried out separately from the official “TIME 100”. The on-line voting is a process which asks people about if the people put up for the voting should really be included in the official “TIME 100”.

BIGBANG and 2NE1’s CL who are both artists of YG Entertainment are the only Koreans nominated for the on-line voting for “2016 TIME 100”.

As of March 25 at 9:30 in Korean time, BIGBANG is in the fourth place in the on-line voting by recording 1.8% of votes, following Bernie Sanders recording 5.5%, Barack Obama recording 2%, and Lady Gaga recording 1.9%.

That demonstrates the fact that BIGBANG is leading K-pop idol group who is standing under a big spotlight both in and out of the country.

TIME explained about the background of BIGBANG’s nomination for the on-line voting for “2016 TIME 100”. TIME said, “BIGBANG is the most influential boy group in the world and has an enthusiastic fandom that made all the tickets for large-scale concerts held in the United States sold out”.

CL who is also nominated for the on-line voting for “2016 TIME 100” along with BIGBANG is also showing big influence, by staying in top 30.

The on-line voting for “2016 TIME 100” will continue until April 10 in American time and the result will be announced on April 14. The official “TIME 100” will be announced on April 21.
