BIGBANG’s new song is proving their borderless popularity by taking over South Korea, China and the Asian music world with their new songs.
“IF YOU” unveiled at 0 hour of July 1 swept across all real-time music charts like Melon, Bugs, Mnet, Genie, Naver and Olleh. The second title track “SOBER” also took the second slot on these charts, proving their unbeaten power.
They are performing equally well in China. China’s largest music site QQ displays “IF YOU” and “SOBER” as the top 2 songs, which were also released at 0 hour on July 1, despite strong releases by the local artists. “BANG BANG BANG” and “WE LIKE 2 PARTY” revealed last month also took the top two slots when they were unveiled, while the music videos also ranked the same. Words related to the latest album “D”, like BIGBANG, BIGBANGFIGHTING, and SOBER, ranked within the top 10 of Weibo’s real-time searched words.
The songs are hot in other countries too. At 2pm, “IF YOU” topped 10 iTunes around the world including Brunei, Hong Kong, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. “SOBER” also ranked #2 in Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and Brunei.
On American Billboard, BIGBANG was highlighted with their new ballad song “IF YOU” and the wild music video “SOBER.” It wrote, “”Sober” explores a more rock-driven side of BIGBANG, a genre rarely heard from the quintet who typically opt for electronic and hip-hop sounds. Their latest boasts lush guitars mixed with pounding percussion, instead of an snappy pop beat, making it rather reminiscent to “Crooked” — a single off BIGBANG leader G-Dragon’s Coup D’Etat, Pt. 2 EP — that incorporates the same spunky delivery and high-energy rock sound. Both “Crooked” and “Sober” were produced and written by G-Dragon and BIGBANG’s longtime producer Teddy with the band’s rapper T.O.P and producer Choice37 helping on the latter track.”
The music video of “SOBER” that features the quintet in colorful background with green nature hit 2.06 million views as of 3:30pm on July 1. In just 15 hours it hit 2 million views.
BIGBANG will be releasing new songs every 1stof the month until August, and on Sept 1 they will be unveiling the complete “MADE” album. Now they are in the middle of their World Tour, and will be in Thailand on July 11 and 12. They will then move on to the U.S., Canada and North America while performing 70 times across 15 cities joined by 1.4 million fans.
