[NEWS] Experts on BIGBANG: #1 For One Full Week. How? “Went Beyond Fandom with Music”

BIGBANG (GD, T.O.P, TAEYANG, DAESUNG and SEUNGRI), back for the first time with new songs in 3 years, swept across all charts already and hinting a very long run.

On May 1st at 0 hour BIGBANG released “LOSER” and “BAE BAE,” two tracks of the newest album “MADE.” They knocked down 10 music charts immediately after the song release. “LOSER,” in particular, still stands at #1 on four major Korean music charts like Melon, Genie, Monkey3 and Naver Music for one full week as of May 7th. It surely deserves attention.

“LOSER” is a song about men who call themselves losers, with an addictive hook and a sentimental melody. BIGBANG’s unique R&B is combined with a sense of hip-hop.

“BAE BAE” is a song about wishing to continue the love as it is now. BIGBANG’s unique style is joined by an impressive chorus.

So experts took a look into how BIGBANG is keeping their #1 position for a whopping one full week.

Popular music critic Kang Tae Gyu told Star News in the morning of May 7th, “As we can see from ‘BAE BAE,’ when it comes to music, fandom is not the only factor that BIGBANG considers.”

He added, “BIGBANG’s music already embraces mainstream factor in it. But this is what sets them apart from other idol groups. Their song attracts people other than their fans. That’s BIGBANG’s power. And the new songs show this clearly.”

He continued, “Music created simply for the self-satisfaction of the artist or the fans cannot last. BIGBANG moved beyond that with their music, and they are also equipped with the trendy appearances. They do it very well.”

“Even if you are not a fan, you just listen to their music. And that’s how they broaden their fan base. That’s what BIGBANG is about.”

Producer Park Seong Hoon, in charge of SBS’s K-Pop Star, commented, “’LOSER’ is about familiar and comfortable melody with BIGBANG’s stylish sounds. It also has this children’s song factor. This is a sentiment familiar to the Korean culture. ‘BAE BAE’ is a ballad, but BIGBANG’s rapping makes it absolutely unique.”

Park added, “People nowadays tend to listen more to sentimental music. BIGBANG did exactly that in the newest tracks. Previously they put more emphasis on triggering the sentiment of international fans, but with these ones they focused more on the Korean side.”

All eyes are on BIGBANG to see how long their track will last in the superior position.
