[2012 MAMA] How 2012 Became the Year of Big Bang

On the night of November 30 in Hong Kong, Big Bang took home a total of four awards – three for the group and one for its leader at the Mnet Asian Music Awards.

It’s true that Big Bang was partially missing on the K-Pop music scene in the second half of 2012, but that doesn’t make the group any less worthy to receive the awards that it did.

From its Alive to Still Alive albums, Big Bang rocked the music charts in 2012.

Whether it was Blue, Fantastic Baby, Bad Boy or even Monster, Big Bang made sure all of its tracks fit into the top ten charts without question.

Even G-Dragon’s One of a Kind ranked high as well, proving that Big Bang has no trouble sweeping the music world and bringing in the highest album sales of 2012.

Big Bang’s new albums also caught the attention of not just Korea but countries all around the world.

Major media companies, such as MTV, Rolling Stone, Jukebox, Grammys and even CNBC, celebrated the group by praising its musical abilities and success.

YouTube also released a list of the most-watched K-Pop music videos for the first half of 2012, and Big Bang took over four spots out of ten, each video recording at least 20 million views.

But Big Bang’s feats didn’t stop there.

While the group stopped promoting new music, Big Bang planned out an epic, exclusive worldwide tour, visiting a total of 24 countries.

Giving back to the fans who poured out so much love and support for the group, Big Bang stopped by Guangzhou, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, Philippines, Malaysia, Los Angeles, New Jersey, Peru and many more.

In these countries, Big Bang set new records selling out each of its concerts with fans demanding more. Big Bang also became the first K-Pop artist to perform in the three domes of Japan..

Not only did Big Bang excite fans by making their dreams come true (in seeing the group, of course), the singers proved to be humanitarians as well, promising to donate part of their tour profits to UNICEF for its much-needed vaccination program for children in Africa.

The list goes on and on about Big Bang’s accomplishments and success in 2012 alone that allowed the group to become the Best Male Group, Worldwide Performer, and Artist of the Year at MAMA.

But in reality, Big Bang doesn’t even need these awards.

The five members have already proven that they are true artists, and these awards just serve as reminders for the group to continue to strive higher and bring better music to its many fans all around the world.
