[NEWS] BIGBANG - MONSTER M/V RANK #5 ON THE BEST VIDEOS OF THE WEEK FOR STEREOGUM
5. BigBang – “Monster” (Dir. ?)
BigBang are obviously the greatest boy band in the known universe, and though their “Monster” video doesn’t approach the hallucinatory future-pop visions of “Fantastic Baby,” it still has explosions and high-kicks and inexplicable fashion decisions and a great beast’s-eye-view shot of a mad dash through a prison minefield, or something. Delightfully confusing, in the grandest K-pop tradition.Source : stereogum.com

[NEWS] BIGBANG "MONSTER" RANKS 3RD ON BILLBOARD'S SOCIAL 50 CHART
K-Pop act Big Bang shook things up online this week and rocketed its way up the Billboard Social 50 chart, rising 36-12 after ending the charting week with a YouTube video release of its newest single, "Monster."
The Social 50 chart ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, using a formula that blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.
The new single, "Monster," is from the South Korean group's newest release, "Still Alive - Special Edition," which was released last week and debuts at No. 3 on World Albums.
The album is a (quick) follow-up to Big Bang's Feb. 19 release, "Still Alive," and features both new tracks and special versions of the hits from the original such as "Blue," "Fantastic Baby" and "Bad Boy." On March 9, Big Bang dominated Billboard's K-Pop Hot 100 chart, capturing five of the top 10 spots on the tally with singles from "Still Alive."
K-Pop 100: Big Bang is Unstoppable
To obtain the massive 24-spot jump on the chart and nearly break the Top 10, Big Bang released a series of teaser clips for the "Monster" video before it dropped June 2, including a video of the Japanese version of "Fantastic Baby." These six video releases leading up to the actual release of "Monster" each gained between 500,000 and 2 million views apiece in the span of a week. That grand total of 10.3 million views allowed Big Bang to experience a 43% increase in fan acquisition during the charting week.

[VOTE] BIGBANG vs. Wonder Girls
Can vote once a day
Big Bang and the Wonder Girls faced off on the music charts with the release of their respective, albums Still Alive and Wonder Party this week, so it’s only appropriate that they go head to head in this week’s K-Pop Battle.
The two groups are credited for setting off the second generation idol group craze, and while the flood of new idol groups have temporarily filled the Big Bang and Wonder Girls-shaped void in our hearts throughout the years, very few idol groups can claim to be game changers in the K-Pop world.
But we want to know where our readers’ loyalties lie, so head over to the K-Pop section and cast your vote in this week’s K-Pop Battle.
Big Bang
Before Big Bang made its debut in 2006, the days of fans going crazy over an idol group were a distant memory as most of the popular boy bands and girl groups of the late 90s and early 2000s had either fizzled out or disbanded.
But, a quiet storm was brewing over at YG Entertainment, and when it finally unleashed its secret weapon Big Bang in 2006, the idol group lived up to its name, blowing up the music scene with its unconventionality.
Big Bang wasn’t unconventional in the way we understand the word today (basically, G-Dragon defined) then, but the group set out and proved to be a new breed of idol.
Unlike the genre-less, oft nonsensical songs of the 90s idol groups, Big Bang debuted with hip hop and R&B tracks We Belong Together and A Fool’s Only Tears, but it wasn’t until 2007 that the group developed a musical style that is uniquely ‘Big Bang’ through smash hit Lies.
The rest is history as every major release, from Last Farewell, Haru Haru, Tonight and Blue, have all charted at number one.
Big Bang’s latest release Monster from special edition album Still Alive claimed the number one spot on music charts upon its release on June 3. The fact that the track has become a hit without the group actively promoting it proves that Big Bang can make a lot of noise based on its name alone.

With the opening of the store, Big Bang will be launching their own special corner on the site under ‘eBay Celebrity‘ (celebrity.ebay.com), becoming the first Korean artist to do so. Through it, the group will put up merchandise such as autographed CDs and donate the proceeds to a good cause.
eBay Korea’s Na Yong Ho stated, “There are currently over 10,000 collectibles related to Hallyu stars on eBay, showing the level of interest in Hallyu. Thus, we believe that with its opening, ‘YG Store’ will play a significant role in the export of Hallyu.”
YG Entertainment commented, “With increase in demand of international fans, we hope to further the convenience of purchasing items by the international fans with the opening of the eBay store.”
