[NEWS] GD’S “CROOKED” TOPPED AMERICAN IGGY’S “SONG OF THE YEAR” LIST… BEATING DAFT PUNK
G-DRAGON’s “CROOKED” topped American music media MTV IGGY’s “2013 MTV Iggy’s Song of the Year” list.
A vote by internet users around the world was conducted for a week from December 13 to 20, 2013, and G-DRAGON’s “CROOKED” garnered 47.7% of votes, winning the race. Bunji Garlin’s “Differentology” came in the second place by gaining 47.68% of votes.
“CROOKED” was one of the double title tracks of G-DRAGON’s second solo album “COUP D’ETAT” released in September last year. The song proved G-DRAGON’s global popularity by beating 13 super-popular songs that competed in the race to be the song of the year, including Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky”, Drake’s “Started from the Bottom”, Lorde’s “Royals”, and Psy’s “Gentleman”.
Another YG artist 2NE1’s “FALLING IN LOVE” was also nominated for “Song of the Year”. “FALLING IN LOVE” was selected as the “Song of the Summer” in 2013 by MTV IGGY. The nomination proved 2NE1’s status as a leading K-Pop girl group once again.
About the selection of “2013 Song of the Year”, MTV IGGY explained, “It is a little bit too much to say that the year 2013 will go down in the history of music, but in 2013, EDM (Electronic Dance Music) showed its still-strong presence and K-POP confirmed the expansion of its global territory. The songs of the year were made in countries like France, Korea, Canada, Trinidad Tobago, U.K., and New Zealand.
About “CROOKED”, MTV IGGY stated, “BIGBANG’s G-DRAGON swept K-POP with his solo album “COUP D’ETAT” and its title track “CROOKED” is a song that will be reproduced over and over again. We already expected in 2012 that G-DRAGON will be a great musician”.
Meanwhile, BIGBANG is holding “2014 BIGBANG +α IN SEOUL” concert to meet domestic fans, for three days from January 24 to 26 at Olympic Park’s Gymnastic Hall, located in Bangi-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul.
