[NEWS] G-Dragon wrote a thankful handwritten letter to his fans
'Moderato,' which is Big Bang's Kwon Ji Yong's supporter fan site that funds for child advocacy, donated $30,000 on Saturday, for his birthday. They have been funding for 4 years, and donate during G-Dragon's birthday. They have already surpassed $100,000.

At Boulevardier, we are fascinated with the Kpop phenomenon that is starting to radiate on large Europeans communities. We have asked Claire Solery, attentive passionate of Korean culture, to tell us about current star G-Dragon. Claire is the author of Out of Korea, where she shares visual and artistic tendencies from Korea, especially if they have a link with France. Contemporary art, photo, cinema, Kpop are her main interests.
She currently is in Seoul and you can follow her tumblr “One month in Seoul” and on Twitter (Out_Of_Korea).
On June 28th during the Man fashion week in Paris, happened a mini hunt on Twitter. G-Dragon (aka GD) leader of South Korean boy band Big Bang, posted on social networks photos of his passages at Rick Owens’, J. Juun’s or Yohji Yamamoto’s fashion shows. He would then attract on his track a handful of young girls and very young women, motivated to get a glimpse of his pink hair in Paris.
G-Dragon, whose real name Kwon Jiyong, 23, is not known to 'people' authorities and fashion experts but has simply attracted attention of a few online publications with the way he styled himself. In Asia, he is one of the most famous male personalities, one of the headliners in Kpop or Korean Pop which is nowadays worldwide purveyor of boy and girl bands, which are slowly but surely evolving on the tweens market. An idol for teens who are in search of a stature in haute couture. Paris is a trophy for any respectable fashionista. Music will wait, make way for fashion.
G-Dragon is a fashionista, which is more likely to be approached as a diva in the Korean Pop world. Kpop systematically establishes in each group an “idol”, backed with a concept, hair color, looks, and fits them into predetermined boxes [stereotypes]. A narrow world, where the body no longer belongs to the owner.G-Dragon was only 8 years old when he became a "trainee" at SM Entertainment, the largest idols’ agency in the kingdom of Kpop. He left it at 13 to join YG Entertainment whose image, promotes emulation among artists, and the individuality of its members. He was made leader of team of 5 boys "with strong personalities," among whom he nevertheless is the most flamboyant. He logically becomes the group’s dynamo. He composes, writes and even released a solo album.
G-Dragon also rolls in style: partnerships between YG and creators, who have well understood the importance of positioning in an environment where idols are overexposed to the media and imitated by their fans, have granted him an opened closet to Givenchy, Balmain or Comme des Garçons. He becomes a brand, especially his own trademark. He controls his aesthetics as much as possible and refines his connections in the West.
G-Dragon was also involved in some troubles that seem trivial to us: marijuana, controversy over his compositions, picture of a flower made with a 50,000 won bill.
His sexual ambiguity can trouble us, Europeans, for we are not accustomed to the homoerotism climate of Kpop, in a society where the stigma over homosexual celebrities is quite irreversible.
G-Dragon is not a drag, not a second Lady Gaga or a Daphne Guiness. Other idols can fall under this label, but he is the perfect embodiment of the triumphant androgyne. His cat’s eyes, his slender silhouette which naturally fits women’s clothes and his brat voice effortlessly place him at the gender crossroads.
G-Dragon has been able to navigate in a world of restrictions to build himself an image of an icon. An idol is a work on which everything can be projected, and that sends you its light back; the perfect recipe to overheat the sexuality of young debutants. On the eve of his next album on August 20th, G-Dragon truly is the Kpop icon for he is full of potentials: man-woman, blond, brown, pink, individual being, group member. He is at the image of Kpop, very aggressive in his visual impact, all the more forthright, protean and experimental, like Kpop itself, in a sort of glorious and eccentric adolescence.

Netizens are stunned after discovering a surprise close friendship between G-Dragon and actress Yun Eun Hye.
On August 12, Yun Eun Hye tweeted to G-Dragon a short, “Is it your comeback soon?” to which G-Dragon responded, “Yes, soon!” Yun Eun Hye then replied, “Oh, excited, excited!”
Though the conversation was brief, their informal and casual way of speaking to each other reflected the two were on friendly terms, much to the surprise of fans.

The time ticks off every second, and it seems the countdown will hit 0:00 on August 18th at 12AM (KST), which happens to be the day of his birthday. Although nothing else has been revealed and despite rumors of a possible delay, fans have been speculating the countdown to be the release date of his 2nd solo album.

[NEWS] Big Bang’s Concert Tickets in Indonesia and Malaysia sold well
Thousands of Big Bang’s fans are counting the days away before they get to meet their favourite K-Pop group this October. The tickets sold very well in both Indonesia and Malaysia.
All the tickets are sold out in just 30 minutes when its counter was open last June in Indonesia. In the meanwhile, 3,500 fans queue up at the ticket counter as soon as it opened at Fahreinheit88 on Bukit Bintang (Star Hill) road, Kuala Lumpur on 28 July. It was reported that 95% of the tickets out of 12,000 seats had been sold out by 6 p.m.
Big Bang’s leader, G-Dragon was deeply touched by their fans’ communities when they remind each other using Facebook and Twitter about the tickets sales.
"It was amazing to see that lots of fans in any age groups nor race queue up while helping each other out when the ticket sales was going on," says G-Dragon.
He added "This also proves that music is a universal language which unites people from all backgrounds. I am sure that our latest concert will be satisfying."

[NEWS] G-Dragon Postpones New Solo Album Release Date
G-Dragon’s new solo album will have to delay its release date due to the new video rating law implemented by the Korea Media Rating Board (KMRB).
According to a report by Star News, G-Dragon and YG Entertainment just recently found out that the new video rating law initiated by KMRB gets enforced on August 18, the initial set date for G-Dragon’s new solo album, which is also his birthday. Because of this new law, all videos expected to get released and uploaded online after August 18 are required to get a classified ranking by the KMRB prior to its release.
KMRB is accepting new videos requests starting from August 13, one week prior to the first enforcement date. It usually takes 7 to 10 days to get the classification so G-Dragon is expected to get his new MV out on August 20 at the earliest.
“We planned all the promotions with G-Dragon’s birthday in mind. But unfortunately, his birthday falls on the same day as the first enforcement date. Because of this new rule, a lot of our plans are getting complicated,” Yang Hyun Suk, the head of YG Entertainment said.
He also expressed his disappointment with the new law saying, “Time is a very sensitive issue in the K-Pop industry. A lot of the artists spend hours editing the video even until the last moment before releasing it. It’s this type of attention to detail and professionalism that really brought up K-Pop’s overall quality.”
He continued, “Due to this new system, a lot of the artists are no longer able to plan their promotions in advance. We don’t even know when the video will first get released now, so all of our plans are heading for the worst case. If KMRB doesn’t pay more attention to the root of the problem, this is only going to get worse.”
Meanwhile, G-Dragon began filming for his new music video yesterday and was aiming for a comeback on August 18, just in time for his birthday. This will be his second solo album and the first in three years.

[NEWS] G-Dragon Hints at New Solo Album Release
Adding onto the several rumors about the release of his upcoming solo album floating around, Big Bang’s G-Dragon posted another picture that’s got people speculating.
On August 10, G-Dragon tweeted, “Slowly, slowly, I can hear the music. Slowly, slowly.”
Attached to the tweet was a picture of an on-set video screen.
Inside, in front of a spacious white background is a stuffed tiger that peered into the camera. Something that looks like a leg is seen behind the tiger, making people wonder if G-Dragon is riding the tiger.
The picture hinted that G-Dragon is in the middle of filming for his album’s music videos.
It is still unclear exactly when G-Dragon’s new solo album will be released, but YG Entertainment has mentioned that it will come out sometime in August, hopefully on August 18, G-Dragon’s birthday.

[NEWS] Yang Hyun Suk criticizes the new MV pre-screening policy implemented by Korea Media Rating Board
CEO Yang Hyun Suk of YG Entertainment, one of the top 3 entertainment agencies in Korea, strongly criticized the new pre-screening and evaluation system implemented by the Korea Media Rating Board for all music videos and footage uploaded online.
During a phone conversation with StarNews on August 7th, Yang Hyun Suk remarked, “In the early 90′s, we were often censored for coloring our hair back when I was promoting with Seotaiji & Boys. This new policy implemented by the Korea Media Rating Board reminds me of those days. I experienced ‘mental collapse’ after hearing about the news.”
“Implementing a policy where Music Videos must first be screened before being uploaded online is like splashing cold water over a situation where K-Pop is properly being spread to all the corners of the world,” he continued. “Instead of trying to be of any help in further spreading K-Pop to the world, I don’t understand why they have come up with a policy that only daunts the artists and the producers.”
“Every minute and every second is important when it comes to the production of the MV as well as promotions,” he continued. “We were planning on promoting G-Dragon’s new album starting in mid-August, but it looks like we may have to rearrange our plans due to the new implementation. Psy’s fresh and humorous “Gangnam Style” MV is going viral all over the world, but if this new policy gets implemented, we are going to have to think twice before we produce this kind of project again.”
“When it comes to public broadcasts, a lot of people tune in so I can somewhat understand the broadcasting company’s already-implemented screening system when it comes to music videos,” he explained. “But when it comes to the internet, [users] select to watch the footage they want, so implementing a pre-evalutation policy for not only music videos but teasers as well is a comical situation that does not exist anywhere in the world.”
He continued, “This is just placing yet another filter in the way of K-Pop spreading across the world, and an urgent debate needs to take place in regards to the new policy.”
Starting on August 18th, all music videos and teaser videos that are produced by any entertainment company (with the exception of the making-of clips and photos) must be first deliberately screened by the Korean Media Rating Board before being uploaded onto YouTube or any other portal sites on the internet.
The Korean Media Rating Board will take anywhere from 7 to 10 days to reach a conclusion after a request for evaluation has been made, however, by law they cannot take more than 14 days. Conducting the evaluation and screening process is the Korea Media Rating Board’s 7-member Video Classification sub-committee. The Korea Media Rating Board explained that this sub-committee is comprised of members who represent all levels of society.
Request for footage evaluation can be made starting on August 13th, and if a video is found to be uploaded onto the internet without first being screened, those responsible can be subject to fines up to $17,000 or even 2 years of probation.
The Korea Media Rating Board explained that this policy was implemented in an attempt to protect the youth, but most people in the K-Pop industry are not on board with the idea.

Will the viewers see G-Dragon on stage in MBC? G-Dragon’s possible appearance in MBC is slowly gaining more credibility as Yang Hyun Suk, the CEO of the YG Entertainment, reportedly met with the management of the MBC’s entertainment division.
YG’s idol groups like Big Bang and 2NE1 were confined to SBS ‘Inkigayo’ when it came to their appearance in mainstream TV music chart programs. However, the recent appointment of Song Seung-jong, a man well-versed in TV music programs, to the post of the deputy director of the entertainment division, has given more credibility to the claims of YG’s return to the MBC.
G-Dragon, the leader of Big Bang, is set to come back with a solo album within this month, so his appearance in TV music programs are a highly anticipated affair. Big Bang, currently on their world tour, has taken to the Mainland China with high anticipation and approval of the local fans.
YG is known for their avoidance of their participation in TV music programs. Specifically, they have been expressing their distaste in the rankings given by these programs, and have stood by their conviction to only appear in stages where the quality of their performance is guaranteed. As a result, they have been embroiled in rumors of their resentment of specific broadcasting stations as well.
CEO Yang Hyun Suk, on the official blog of YG, has revealed last year that “the reason YG has been trying to reduce the number of appearance in TV shows is because we wish to care about our singers” and “the singers must participate in rehearsals and undergo so many preparations, just for the 3 minutes of their stage time. 2NE1, who needs to prepare for their hair and makeup, must start their preparations from 2 a.m., and if they have a schedule beforehand, they can’t even get some sleep before their performances.”
“While 2NE1 did not have much activities, like four weekly music shows, late-night music shows, commercials and photo shoots, performances, foreign activities, and radio programs, what I have seen during the past few months were their exhaustion, and their desperate wish for even an hour of sleep.”
“If YG adheres to the demands and the positions of the broadcasting companies, and strive more towards the bond with them, we will certainly have an easier life than now. However, the reason why we choose the hard way, regardless of knowing all these, is because we believe that there are promotions which is made more valuable by continuous efforts to strengthen and polish them, even with the cost of lesser numbers, than the promotions which succeed by sheer numbers.”
