BIGBANG Has An Assailable Lead. Rival To None? [Music Scene of This Month①]

BIGBANG continues to top the charts. With the release of the first of their “MADE” series in May, BIGBANG made a comeback as a group in three years. Since then, they have been dominating the music charts. Will they keep on doing so in July?

Last May, BIGBANG kicked off their grand project – releasing two singles on the first day of each month for five months. They have come halfway of their “MADE” project, and it has been a great success so far. BIGBANG released “LOSER” and “BAE BAE” in May, “BANG BANG BANG” and “WE LIKE 2 PARTY” in June and “IF YOU” and “SOBER” in July. Their singles have been sweeping the charts as soon as they’ve been released.

As of July 4, BIGBANG’s “IF YOU” took the number one spot on the seven major online music charts – Genie, Olleh, Bugs, Soribada, Monkey 3, Naver Music and Cyworld Music. BIGBANG’s “IF YOU” also topped the iTunes Singles Chart in Hong Kong, Macao, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Vietnam and Laos, reflecting BIGBANG’s overwhelming popularity in Asian countries. Furthermore, the Youtube views of the “SOBER” MV is showing a sharp increase, posting 6, 278,310 views on July 4.

Demonstrating their wide and diverse music spectrum with each of their album, BIGBANG has been recognized as a group that has both talent and mass appeal. Fans’ expectations grow as time goes by, but BIGBANG always goes beyond their expectations and never lets them down. In the beginning of each month, fans relish BIGBANG’s new music and, at the end of each month, they wonder what BIGBANG will come up with next.

Other artists are rescheduling their comeback dates so that their comebacks will not collide with BIGBANG’s. Some even say that BIGBANG‘s only rival is BIGBANG themselves. With their new project, BIGBANG has certainly provided fresh stimulus to the Korean music scene. Will they able to own July as well?

In July, the second big girl group match is expected to take place with the comeback of Girls’ Generation and Girl’s Day. Also, the music festival of the TV show Infinite Challenge will take place after a two year break. So, BIGBANG is faced with stronger rivals than ever this month. BIGBANG’s G-DRAGON and TAEYANG will be participating in Infinite Challenge’s music festival, but this might lead to unexpected results. Their performance in the show might gain more popularity than BIGBANG’s new singles. We will have to keep an eye out on whether BIGBANG will continue to dominate the music scene in July.
