[10 Focus] BIGBANG vs. BIGBANG, Quenching Thirst of Long-Time Waiting

BIGBANG is creating a formidable sensation upon their comeback.

On May 1 at 0 o’clock, BIGBANG unveiled their new song “LOSER” and “BAE BAE”. The two songs are sweeping the first and second places on the charts of all the ten music-streaming websites including Melon, Bugs, and Mnet. Along with such success in domestic music charts, “LOSER” is also in the top place in the iTunes single chart of 10 countries: Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macao, Malaysia, Philippines, Romania, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, and Vietnam. Plus, the song is in the 68th place in iTunes chart of the United States, in the 51st in Canada, and in the 81st in the U.K. Following “LOSER”, “BAE BAE” is in the second place in the iTunes singles chart of Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. So, both of the two new songs of BIGBANG are gaining a global popularity.

“LOSER” has also recorded nine times of “kicking through the roof”, which refers to a song going beyond the peak of music chart’s graph, on Korea’s biggest music-streaming website Melon. Then, “BAE BAE” also recorded eight times of “kicking through the roof”. It has been only 12 hours since the two songs’ release. As BIGBANG is creating sensation even before they begin TV performance, it is hard to imagine how far their success will go.

BIGBANG has come back as a complete team three years after “STILL ALIVE” released in June, 2012. Each member of BIGBANG has been performing as solo artists or in different units like GD X TAEYANG so far, but it has been really long since the complete team of BIGBANG with all the five members gave performance. Fans thought they are waiting too long, and some even raised complaints about the frequency of BIGBANG’s domestic performance, calling BIGBANG “a foreign artist who visits Korea from time to time”.

Such a complaint has been finally relieved by the release of “LOSER” and “BAE BAE”. Some say that “LOSER” and “BAE BAE” are not like BIGBANG’s flagship exciting songs, but rather feel somewhat loose. However, the two songs are the right ones to mark the beginning of BIGBANG’s comeback. The calm and sentimental feel of “LOSER” and “BAE BAE” are evaluated to be following the footsteps of BIGBANG’s “BLUE” and “LOVE SONG”, with honest lyrics appealing to many people.

Notably, at BIGBANG’s Seoul concert held on April 26, the audience sang along the song’s chorus that goes “loser, loner, coward who pretends to be strong”, right after they heard the song only once. That showed the fact that BIGBANG’s “LOSER” can well appeal to the general public. If someone feels that “LOSER” is a little bit plain, “BAE BAE” with bold lyrics and subtle feel can make up for that.

Beginning from May 1, BIGBANG will release more than one songs on the 1 of every month until August. Now, fans can listen to BIGBANG’s new songs every month. In September, complete album “MADE” will be unveiled. According to YG’s head YANG HYUN SUK, the album “MADE” to be released in September will have new songs. So, fans can ceaselessly enjoy BIGBANG’s new songs every month from May to September this year.

BIGBANG’s two new songs are fiercely competing on music charts for No.1. Such a situation is expected to be repeated every time BIGBANG’s new songs are released. So, Korean fans’ thirst for BIGBANG’s new songs will continue to be relieved.
